In this video, I am having a Yamaha KX-393 cassette deck as an example. The use of Naphtha or “Zippo” lighter fluid in this video is for maintenance of your belts. You can also use Naphtha on your pinch roller rubber weekly with a q-tip, and they can last a very long time. Don’t use it on any other plastics inside your cassette deck. If you have accidentally spilled some Naphtha inside your cassette deck, clean it with Isopropyl alcohol 90% or better.

Demagnetizer cassettes are an option. But they are not common these days, and very hard to tell how good they are working, so it’s better to get your hands on a handheld device, which is recommended.
